What people ask before they begin.
Still wondering about your situation? A TaxAudit professional can talk it through — no commitment.
What is an Offer in Compromise?
An Offer in Compromise (OIC) is an agreement between you and the IRS to settle your tax debt for less than the full amount owed. The IRS evaluates your income, expenses, and assets to decide the minimum they can realistically collect from you. If your offer meets that amount, they may accept it.
How do I know if I qualify?
Use the free eligibility check at the top of this page. It uses information similar to what the IRS considers when evaluating relief options, and takes about 15 minutes. You'll get an estimated minimum offer amount right away.
How much does it cost?
The eligibility check is always free. If you decide to move forward, plans start at $99 — a one-time payment with no subscription. You can see a full breakdown of what each plan includes after completing the eligibility check.
Is this the IRS? Do you represent me?
No. We are not the IRS and are not affiliated with any government agency. DIY and Assisted services do not include representation before the IRS unless expressly stated in a separate agreement. Full Service, if accepted and separately engaged, may include IRS representation by authorized tax professionals. If your situation is complex, we recommend speaking with a TaxAudit professional.
What if I'm not eligible for an OIC?
If an OIC isn't the right fit based on your financial picture, a TaxAudit professional can review your full situation and help you find the best path forward. There are other IRS relief options that may still help.
Is my information secure?
Yes. Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties. Financial data entered in the eligibility check is saved locally in your browser.
What if the IRS rejects my offer?
A rejection isn't the end. You can appeal within 30 days or resubmit with updated information. A TaxAudit professional can help you understand your options if that happens.
